UNITED TO PROTECT THE SEA

Benetti loves the sea and has therefore always been sensitive to its health and supportive of any initiative aiming to protect it. That’s why we have joined forces with the Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) to help clean the water and protect the marine ecosystem of the Mediterranean Sea. Its extraordinary biodiversity – made of an estimated 10,000 marine species – is in grave danger, threatened by pollution, climate change and overfishing. With Benetti’s help, BLUE aims to create a network of effective marine protected areas – from Menorca, the Aeolian Islands and Croatia to Turkey and Greece – which promote sustainable, artisanal and small-scale fisheries while allowing stocks to recover.

RESTORING HEALTHY OCEANS

In its almost ten year existence, BLUE has already achieved a huge amount of impactful ocean conservation, from the Maldives to the Tyrrhenian Sea, from the Indian Ocean to the Cyclades. BLUE’s aim is to put 10% of the world’s oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030. The charity is also working on establishing sustainable fisheries so that fish stocks can begin to recover. To read more about BLUE’s work, see their 2017 Review.

THE BLUE MARINE FOUNDATION

The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is a UK-based charity. Established in 2010, BLUE aims to solve the crisis in the oceans by enabling the creation of marine reserves and providing innovative solutions to overfishing. Around 90% of global fish stocks are in fact fully or over-exploited and around 90% of large fish are gone. The consequences are far-reaching, not only for the future of food but also because healthy oceans absorb half the CO2 produced by human activity.

TAKING ACTION

Benetti believes that, from the first moment our yachts touch the water, they seal a pact with the sea. A pact of respect and mutual appreciation that lasts a lifetime. To honour it, Benetti offers you two different ways to support the Blue Marine Foundation:

BLUE BENETTI | A one-off payment at the signing of a Benetti yacht construction contract. You can donate a percentage of the contract price to the Blue Marine Foundation.
BLUE BENETTI + | An annual donation to the Blue Marine Foundation for every thousand miles sailed.
Donations can be made by cheque, bank transfer or online.
